Morocco signs bilateral agreements with Russia

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a string of energy, military and other deals with Morocco during a North Africa tour.

Medvedev on Wednesday met with Moroccan Prime Minister Saadeddine El Othmani and presided at a signing ceremony for 11 bilateral agreements.

The agreements cover cooperation in areas such as customs, agriculture, the military and culture, as well as energy efficiency and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

“ This is a very promising project in particular the delivery of liquefied natural gas to meet the needs of the Moroccan economy, but we are ready to discuss with our partners other areas of cooperation”.

Medvedev travelled with a large Russian government delegation and Russian business executives.

Trade between Rabat and Moscow reached 225 million euros in 2015. The trade balance remains deficit for the kingdom.

The Russian Prime Minister arrived in Morocco after a visit to Algeria, where he discussed oil prices and energy cooperation.

Morocco mainly exports agricultural products to Russia, notably citrus fruits and imports mainly liquefied natural gas.
